What rebamipide is
Rebamipide is a medicine that acts not on stomach acidity but on the stomach's protective lining. It belongs to the cytoprotective group: it helps the gastric mucosa withstand damage.
It is supplied as 100 mg tablets, 500 tablets per pack. This is a prescription medicine used in gastric disease.
Unlike agents that suppress acid secretion, rebamipide does not change acidity directly. Its role is to support the mucosa's own defence mechanisms.
How rebamipide works
Support for prostaglandins
Rebamipide raises the level of prostaglandin E2 in the gastric mucosa. These substances take part in local defence: they support blood flow and the production of protective mucus.
More mucus and better blood flow
The medicine increases the secretion of gastric mucus and improves the microcirculation in the stomach wall. The mucus layer forms a barrier between the aggressive environment and the cell surface.
Less inflammation and healing
By improving the blood supply and easing inflammatory processes, the mucosa is given the chance to recover. This is support for natural healing, not a substitute for the main treatment.
Approved uses
The product information names gastric ulcer, as well as mucosal damage — erosions, redness, swelling and bleeding — in acute gastritis and in flare-ups of chronic gastritis.
The medicine is used as part of treatment prescribed by a physician. It does not replace dealing with the cause of the damage, whether that is infection, irritating medicines or other factors.
The length of use and the combination with other agents are decided by a physician, who also judges whether further examination of the stomach is needed.
What the research shows
Rebamipide has been studied in randomised trials in erosive gastritis and in dyspepsia. Some work compared it with other medicines, while other work assessed adding it to the main therapy.
Systematic reviews and meta-analyses describe an effect on mucosal damage, including damage linked to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers.
Overall the data support its use, but most studies were run in individual regions and differed in design and duration. Direct comparisons between all regimens are few.

Precautions
- This is a prescription medicine. Prescribing and the length of use are decided by a physician.
- Hypersensitivity reactions are possible: rash, itching, hives. They call for a doctor's advice.
- More serious conditions have rarely been described, including a sharp fall in white cells or platelets and liver impairment with jaundice. Such symptoms must be reported at once.
- Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding and every medicine and supplement you take.
- Do not stop treatment on your own and do not change the regimen without a doctor's instruction.
- If the mucosal damage is linked to irritating medicines, only a physician decides whether they should be changed.
Frequently asked
Is rebamipide a prescription medicine?
Yes. It is a prescription medicine and is not intended for self-medication.
Why does this page not give a dosing schedule?
The dose and the length of the course are set by a physician, taking the diagnosis and the state of the mucosa into account. A reference page does not prescribe treatment.
Does this medicine lower stomach acidity?
No. Rebamipide does not suppress acid secretion directly. It works as a cytoprotective agent, supporting the mucosa's defensive properties.
Where does the order ship from?
