What Pineamine is

Pineamine is a preparation based on polypeptide fractions obtained from the tissue of the pineal gland, the epiphysis. Its active principle is a complex of low-molecular-weight, water-soluble peptides.

It is supplied as a lyophilisate for solution for injection: 10 mg per vial and 10 vials per pack. That quantity is meant for one course.

Preparations of this kind are classed as tissue-specific bioregulators. They do not act as hormone replacement therapy but influence the body's own regulatory mechanisms.

How it works

The pineal-hypothalamus-pituitary axis

With age the activity of the pineal gland declines, the production of its key hormone melatonin falls, and this is reflected in the work of the whole reproductive neuroendocrine system.

Peptide fractions

Once in the body, the peptides act in a tissue-specific way: they are associated with support for the function of the anterior pituitary lobe and for the balance of gonadotropic hormones that is disturbed during menopause.

Melatonin synthesis

In studies of elderly people the preparation was noted to raise the pineal gland's own production of melatonin. This concerns support for natural synthesis rather than the introduction of a hormone from outside.

Approved uses

Pineamine is used in conditions linked to the age-related decline of pineal function, including menopausal syndrome. It is considered an option for those for whom hormone replacement therapy is unsuitable for medical reasons.

The medicine is given intramuscularly. The dose and the length of the course are set by a physician, and the treatment plan is not a matter of personal choice.

What the research shows

In the scientific literature a preparation of pineal peptides close in composition (epithalamin) was studied in experimental gerontology and oncology, as well as in work on free-radical processes and the lifespan of animals.

A separate publication describes the effect of Pineamine on melatonin synthesis in elderly people. Data on clinical use in menopausal syndrome are limited, so conclusions about advantages drawn from them would be premature.

Links to the primary sources are given below. The study of pineal peptides is ongoing, and some conclusions still rest on a small number of observations.

Precautions

Frequently asked

Is Pineamine a prescription medicine?

Yes. It is a prescription medicine and is not intended for self-medication.

Why does this page not give a dosing schedule?

The dose and the length of the course are set by a physician with the patient's condition in mind. A reference page does not prescribe treatment.

Does Pineamine replace hormone therapy?

No. It is not hormone replacement therapy. It is classed as a tissue-specific bioregulator, and the decision to use it belongs to a physician.

Where does the order ship from?
